Barbacan - Rosso
Description
The Rosso of Barbacan is mainly made from Chiavennasca, but it also contains some other grape varieties such as Róssola, Rossolino Rosa, Brugnòla, Chiavennaschino, Pignòla, Negrera and Chiavennasca Bianca. So a nice mix! A mix of different vineyards of some 70 years old, of different heights - between 380 and 700 meters high! This time matured in concrete tanks instead of oak. Juicy and elegant, cherry and black pepper. Nicely integrated tannins. Damn good!
Artisanal wines from the mountains in Northern Italy, high up in the Alps, you find the 6 hectares of vineyards of Barbacan in San Giacamo di Teglio, Valtellina. Terraces, wintery slopes full of snow in winter. It's almost an incredible job what they do here. And the wines? Extraordinary. They are all Nebbiolo, which is called Chiavennasca in this region.
